11 best coworking spaces in Cambodia

Although less popular than its neighboring countries, Thailand and Vietnam, Cambodia is seeing an increase in popularity among all forms of tourism. The capital city, Phnom Penh, has especially seen prosperity since the rise of the Internet, which brought entire new industries and work opportunities to Cambodia. This sparked the attention of digital nomads from all over the world.

But what really gets the interest of people who like to work and travel are the most affordable prices in the region. You will learn about the best places to stay, as well as what to do in your spare time.

The biggest concentration of coworking and similar shared office spaces can be found in the capital city of Phnom Penh. That’s to be expected, considering it’s the only major city in the country. That being said, a few noteworthy places are located in other popular tourist areas, most notably Siem Reap.

The only recurring issue with office spaces in Cambodia is that the internet is decent at best. This is something worth knowing so that it doesn’t surprise you. Here’s a quick rundown of our 11 favorite (and two not so great) coworking spaces to check out.

Phnom Penh:

  1. The Desk
  2. SAHAKA Coworking Space
  3. Emerald HUB
  4. The Green Penthouse Coworking
  5. Emerald Hub BKK3
  6. OMO Hub
  7. Workspace 1
  8. Coworking Today
  9. Regus Canadia Bank Tower
  10. (AVOID) Cowork Art Shop

Siem Reap:

  1. Garage Society Siem Reap
  2. AngkorHUB
  3. (AVOID) BioLAB Coffee & Office

Our favorite coworking space in Phnom Penh is The Desk

Source: The Desk Facebook

The Desk is not just a coworking space — it’s an entire community of digital workers. The space is home to many startups, small businesses, freelancers, bloggers, etc. All of these people benefit from being under one roof. It’s the perfect place to be regardless of whether you’re at the beginning of your career or an expert in your field.

When not working, members of The Desk have plenty of community and learning events to look forward to. At these events, you can build your social and business network with like-minded individuals. The offices are also located in a great neighborhood, just down the street from Aeon Mall, the biggest shopping mall in the country. The Desk is a great place even by global standards and has some of the best prices in the city, which is why we highly recommend it!

Here are the other coworking spaces in Phnom Penh you should check out

SAHAKA Coworking Space

Source: SAHAKA Facebook

SAHAKA (sometimes spelled SAHA’KA) barely misses out on the #1 spot for best coworking space in Cambodia. Two things held it back:

  1. The venue is smaller, meaning there is less workspace
  2. The company is newer, meaning their community is still developing

The space it does occupy is amazing, though. The high ceiling makes the room airy, and there’s plenty of distance between workstations and individual seats on each table.

The interior design is simple and bright, with lots of natural light coming in through the large windows. If you plan on working remotely from Phnom Penh, you must visit SAHAKA. When you’re not working, help yourself to the onsite cafe downstairs, or chill and socialize in the lounge area. The only issue we have with SAHAKA is the location—it’s quite down south in the city.

Emerald HUB

Source: Emerald HUB Facebook

The brand Emerald HUB has two coworking spaces operating in Cambodia at the moment. First, let’s talk about the original one. Despite being older, it edges out the other one just slightly. The space can host a large capacity of people and has plenty of room for individual workers, as well as smaller teams.

If you and your coworking partners require more space, you can choose a private office. Otherwise, inquire with the staff, and they will save you a separate table with enough spaces for everyone, without extra cost. The community building in Emerald HUB is on par with The Desk, with lots of events to look forward to. The excellent amenities it offers include, but are not limited to:

  • Free parking on the premise
  • Onsite cafe
  • Library
  • Outdoor terrace
  • Lounge area
  • 24/7 membership access

The location is also fantastic, being nearly dead center in the city, right next to the national Olympic Stadium.

The Green Penthouse Coworking

Source: The Green Penthouse

The Green Penthouse office space is located inside the stunning Yellow Tower office building. The self-described urban oasis is the ultimate office plus nature combination. The exterior and interior are full of greenery, and almost every piece of furnishing is made from natural materials like wood. The amenities inside are endless (keep in mind that some will have to be paid for out of your pocket):

  • Free parking on-premise
  • Relax rooms
  • Onsite cafe and restaurant
  • Pool table
  • Open-air terraces
  • Lots of cool furniture all around
  • Gym
  • Dance and yoga studio

The high ceiling and plants keep the room full of air, while the huge side windows allow tons of natural light to come in. The place also works as an “open-space” office, meaning you can sit and work from pretty much everywhere, whether it’d be the work desks or beanbags on the terrace.

Once you’re done working, head on over to the rooftop bar to enjoy a drink and a 360-degree view of the city. The best part is that this luxury experience comes at a regular price range. The building also offers shared or private living accommodation, meaning there’s the opportunity for coliving too. The only issue is that the space is so popular, it tends to be full to the top, so make sure to book in advance.

Emerald HUB BKK3

Source: Emerald HUB Facebook

After success with the first coworking space, the brand Emerald HUB launched its second office titled BKK3. The differences between the two are minimal, even the locations are only 15 minutes apart from each other, though BKK3 is slightly smaller. The main difference-maker is that, unlike the first one, Emerald BKK3’s reception works 24 hours every day, except for Sunday, when they work from 8 am to 5 pm. This means that you don’t need to have a monthly plan or membership to drop in at any time of day.

The prices are pretty standard too, with slight differences compared to their other facility. Contrary to the internet issues we mentioned earlier, this place gets highly praised for having a stable and fast connection.

OMO Hub

Source: OMO Hub Facebook

OMO Hub is the newest coworking space on my list, and quite promising. The offices contain a decent amount of shared or private workstations with state-of-the-art furnishing. Apart from the amazing, modern workspace, the company offers essential services that can kick-start your business or career. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Branding and marketing solutions
  • Web development and design
  • eCommerce handling
  • Content creation

The only downside is the enclosed space, where you mostly rely on internal lighting and air ventilation/conditioning. Luckily, it isn’t an issue. The future is looking exciting for OMO Hub.

Workspace 1

Source: WS1 Facebook

Workspace 1 or WS1 is located inside the FACTORY business center in the south of the city. The huge workspace is full of unrivaled numbers of amenities, such as:

  • Free parking on-premise
  • Nap/relax room
  • Game room
  • Lockers
  • Showers
  • Podcasting room
  • Ping pong table
  • Cafe and restaurant on site

They offer tons of renting options and cool bonuses with each, such as free drinks, credits for their in-house facilities, discounts for additional members, etc. The community around Workspace 1 is huge, and members get to take part in lots of social and learning events that take place there. The only downside is the slightly out of town location.

Coworking Today

Source: Coworking Today Facebook

Another solid coworking space worth mentioning in Phnom Penh is Coworking Today. In short, it has everything you’d expect from a modern office, and the location is great. But what really sets this place apart is the in-house support you can get. Coworking Today offers many services that can elevate your performance or business, such as:

  • Mentorship programs
  • Training and workshops
  • Support for startups
  • Marketing and branding support, and more

The prices are fair. Users can help themselves to the onsite cafe, restaurant, snack bar, lounge, terrace, and use the free parking on-premise. The space also puts a high value on community building, so there will be lots of educational and social events to attend.

Regus Canadia Bank Tower

Source: Regus

Regus Canadia Bank Tower is one of two Regus a global office rental agency coworking spaces in the city of Phnom Penh. Their offices are located on the 18th floor of one of the most critical financial buildings in the country. It’s also one of the few places that offer a “virtual office” service. This means you can register your business at their facility and enjoy perks like having a:

  • Business address
  • Mailing address
  • Reception
  • Landline/fax
  • Meeting room

The only downside about Regus is that they almost exclusively offer long term contracts, so you might be asked to sign for one or even two years for a single space or smaller office. Regus is a good choice for companies looking for long term solutions, but individuals might find other options to be better.

We recommend you avoid using Cowork Art Shop

Source: Cowork Art Shop Facebook

Cowork Art Shop has plenty of good things going for it. The location is great, close to the river bank. There is lots of valuable equipment inside, including things like:

  1. Photo equipment
  2. Lighting equipment
  3. Projector
  4. Microphone
  5. Printer
  6. Projector

The place offers free basic tea, coffee, and beer, and has an onsite cafe. The art gallery is also a unique addition. So, what’s the issue? This place is small and only has three tables. It’s not a real coworking space.

The prices are also questionable, being on par with some amazing coworking spaces in the city. We’re not saying avoid Cowork Art Shop altogether. We’re saying avoid it as a coworking space. Here is our honest thought to the owners: Just renovate everything to a regular cafe with all the cool amenities, and you’ll have a unique and cool place for people to hang out.

Coworking spaces I liked in Siem Reap:

Garage Society Siem Reap

Source: Garage Society Facebook

Garage Society is a refreshing and colorful coliving and coworking space in the center of Siem Reap. On-site, users can enjoy the cafe, outdoor terrace, swimming pool, relax and reading area, pool table, as well as 24-hour access to everything for members. The downsides are lack of ergonomic furniture and limited private office space, with everything working on a first-come, first-served basis. There are private working areas, but you’ll have to inquire about them and hope they’re available.

AngkorHub

Source: AngkorHUB Facebook

Although maybe not as impressive as its counterparts in Phnom Penh, AngkorHub is the most well-rounded coworking and coliving space in Siem Reap. By picking their coliving, you will also receive:

  1. Pickup at the airport
  2. Local Sim Card
  3. Bicycle

The space is available 24/7, and it has some of the fastest internet speeds in the country — 150 Mbps. The company also puts heavy emphasis on community building, connecting its members through a shared Facebook group, community drinks and lunch, workshops, and similar social and learning events. On-site, you’ll also find amenities such as:

  • Pool table
  • Showers
  • Laundry service
  • Cafe
  • Home-cooked meals, etc.

We recommend you skip BioLAB Coffee & Office

Source: BioLAB Facebook

BioLAB is another miss at the attempt to blend a great cafe with a coworking space. The coffee there is delicious, but there aren’t any real work stations. We would not recommend sitting in the small, wooden chairs for more than a few hours, and definitely not for an entire workday. The fact that people use this space casually, which comes with regular distractions like conversations and laughter, doesn’t help either. We would recommend it ten times out of ten for:

  • Grabbing some amazing coffee
  • Recharging your devices while enjoying the fast Wifi
  • Relaxing with your laptop or reading a book
  • Doing group projects for school

But, once again, we wouldn’t recommend it as a working facility. They do offer private offices which they call “VIP rooms”, but they aren’t up to par with some of the other options nearby.
